Each year, members from the IABC/SC chapter host an awards
program to recognize
outstanding achievements in communications and to foster
professional development among communicators. The annual competition, launched in 1999, includes opportunities for communicators to compete in these categories: publications, design, writing, electronic and communication campaigns. Entries are professionally judged by panels of IABC members from outside South Carolina. The awards program ends with a reception and ceremony in November. Proceeds from the Palmetto Awards are used to fund an endowed scholarship through the University of South Carolina (USC) Educational Foundation. The scholarship fund honors the memory of Mike Wilkerson, IABC/SC past president, IABC/SC D2 delegate and charter member of the South Carolina chapter. The scholarship benefits students enrolled at the USC College of Journalism and Mass Communications. |
