Public affairs supervisor

Responsibilities
SCANA Corporation is seeking experienced candidate for public affairs supervisory position to oversee media relations and strategic communication planning for company related issues and projects in the Charleston/Low Country area of South Carolina.

Qualifications
A minimum of seven years public relations and/or media communication experience required. Both supervisory and on-camera experience preferred. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and act decisively in coordinating and directing projects and issues that impact company reputation. Additional requirements include a BA in Journalism, English, or related medium, excellent oral and written skills, excellent composure under stress, quick-learner with ability to translate complex issues/topics. This position requires after-hours media duty on a rotating basis and being on call 24/7 for company emergencies.

Freelance communications specialist

This temporary position (filling in for maternity leave) responsible for on-site coordination of Carolina Care Plan’s corporate communications functions. Includes developing, writing, editing and facilitating the printing and distribution of marketing, community relations, employee communications and media relations materials.

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining quality standards
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong PC skills and knowledge of print production
  • Knowledge of health insurance industry
  • General familiarity with South Carolina and Columbia business community
  • BS degree in journalism, communications, English or related field
  • Three or more years experience in related field

Public affairs coordinator

This position will handle day-to-day media inquiries and will coordinate planning and execution of projects designed to promote and protect the company's image and reputation.

Requirements

  • Five years public relations experience

  • BA in journalism, English, communication or related field

  • Experience working with or within news media

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Ability to write to AP style

Candidates must also be able to work independently and act decisively in responding to issues that impact the company and its stakeholders. Job requires composure under stress; ability to translate complex issues/topics into understandable terms; comfort working in a team-oriented environment; after-hours on call media duty on a rotating basis; writing for corporate publications; public speaking.
